Payment methods
thola supports payment via Razorpay and Cashfree, with Cashfree as the default. Underneath those gateways, you can pay with:
| Method | Available |
|---|---|
| Credit / debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Rupay) | ✅ |
| UPI (Indian workspaces) | ✅ |
| Net banking | ✅ |
| Bank transfer (NEFT/RTGS) | ✅ on Pro and Enterprise |
| Wallet (Paytm, PhonePe, etc.) | ✅ (Indian workspaces) |
| Crypto | ❌ |
Adding a payment method
When you first upgrade from Free, you're walked through adding a payment method. To add another later:
- Profile → Plan → Payment methods
- Click Add method
- Choose card / UPI / bank
- Complete the gateway flow (no card details touch thola servers — they go directly to Cashfree/Razorpay)
You can have multiple methods on file. Pick a default for auto-renewal.
Changing your default method
To change the method used for monthly auto-renewal:
- Profile → Plan → Payment methods
- Click the Star on the new default
- The old default is demoted to secondary (still on file, not used for charges unless picked manually)
Removing a method
- Profile → Plan → Payment methods
- Click Remove on the method
- Confirm
If the method you're removing is the default, you must promote another to default first.
How auto-renewal works
For monthly plans:
- On the 1st of the month, thola charges your default method for the plan
- If the charge succeeds, the new month's tokens are credited at midnight
- If the charge fails, you get an email + WhatsApp ping. You have 3 days to update the method before the workspace falls back to Free-tier limits
We try the charge three times over 72 hours before treating it as a real failure. Common failure causes:
- Card expired → update the card
- Bank limit exceeded → call your bank, then retry
- 3DS / OTP challenge timed out → manually pay through the email link
For annual plans, the charge runs on the anniversary of your initial purchase.
Bank transfer (Pro / Enterprise)
For Pro and Enterprise, you can request bank transfer instead of card.
- Invoices are issued on the 1st of each month (or the 1st of each quarter for annual)
- Payment terms: net-15 for Pro, net-30 for Enterprise (negotiable)
- We accept NEFT/RTGS to a designated INR account; USD wires to our partner bank
To switch to bank transfer:
- Profile → Plan → Payment methods → Request invoicing
- Fill in your billing entity details, GSTIN, address
- We'll review and confirm within 2 business days
Invoicing & GST
Every charge generates an invoice automatically. Find them at Profile → Plan → Invoices.
For Indian workspaces:
- GSTIN goes on every invoice if you've recorded it
- Place of supply is set from your billing address
- GST is shown line-itemed (CGST + SGST or IGST)
You can download invoices as PDF. Bulk download is on the Export tab — get a year's worth in one click for your accountant.
Refunds
See Plans → Refunds for the policy. Refunds go back to the original payment method. You cannot redirect a refund to a different card or bank.
Receipt notifications
Every successful charge sends an email receipt. You can also turn on WhatsApp receipts under Profile → Notifications → Billing — useful if your accountant lives in WhatsApp.
Common questions
Can I pay annually with UPI? Yes, but most banks cap UPI transactions at ₹1 lakh / day, so for some Pro/Enterprise customers you'll need a card or bank transfer.
Can I pay for someone else's workspace? Yes — there's a gift / sponsor option on the upgrade screen. Pick the workspace, the plan, and pay. The recipient gets a notification and the plan activates immediately.
My payment is in a different currency than my workspace. Your bank will convert. The conversion happens at your bank's rate, not ours — we charge in your workspace's billing currency.
